Local Adventures
Nature: countryside, seaside and village walks and cycling in the hills and along the Riviera coastline
We are well located to explore, cycle, walk and ramble! There are hire bikes along the coast at nearby La Napoule where you can cycle all the way to Cannes, or hire our folding bikes (2 available) for 10 euros each a day (150 euros returnable deposit required). www.cheminsdesparcs.fr is a fantastic resource for wilderness and countryside adventures. Take a gentle walk along the canal used to transport food from the hills to Mandelieu La Napoule, and peek in between gardens and woodland, or visit the lake and woods in Mougins. There are also wild woods with stony pathways just 20 minutes' walk from us; you can paddle and swim in the river Siagne about 10 minutes' drive away. Ask us to pack a picnic for you.
Drive
to the many ancient hilltop villages closeby: Mougins, St Paul de Vence, Cabris or Gourdon (famous for glass); by the sea, Biot and its glass factory; French markets notably in Cannes and Nice; explore the famous Riviera coastline; or see the caves at St Cezaire.
Speed-boat
Robert would be delighted to be your Captain and visit the Cannes islands or along the Cote d'Azur. Day trip, 400 Euros (max. 5 guests). Early evening return to port La Napoule. Ask us when you make your booking, and we can book a table for you at a restaurant on the islands if you wish. Weather dependent.
Grasse and Perfumeries.
Grasse is the perfume capital of the world. 10 minutes' drive away, Grasse town centre features Fragonard and Molinard perfumeries' free tours, many boutiques and brasseries in this ancient, pretty hilltop town. See Rubens paintings at the church; visit the delightfully aromatic Perfume Museum and enjoy tremendous views and artisanal shopping at this famous ancient hillside town.
Art
As well as Rubens' paintings in Grasse church, the French Riviera is famous for its light and many artists are inspired by it. Picasso, Cezanne, Chagall, Matisse, Monet, Munsch... Visit the Picasso Museums in bustling Antibes and at Vallauris, the famous pottery town where Picasso learnt the art of pottery. Nearby hilltop medieval village Mougins has the MACM (Museum of classic art) which also houses the world's largest armoury collection. Renoir had a delightful summer house in Cagnes Sur Mer which is now a beautiful museum with open gardens; nearby there's the palatial Chateau Museum Grimaldi. Take a day trip to the luxuriously splendid Villa et Jardins Ephrussi de Rothschild. Tell us what interests you when you make your booking.
Train
From Grasse train station, you can ride all the way by train along the coastline to Italy via Cannes, Nice and Monaco; or in the other direction towards St Tropez.
Wine
